Flag Football

FRESHMAN DIVISION

Demographics

The Freshman Flag Division is made up of four (4) teams of Preschool and Kindergarten teams . Players in this Division are four (4) to five (5) years old on July 1st of the current calendar year.

New Players

New players are assigned to teams at random though the goal is to balance age and experience as much as possible at this level.

Returning Players

Every returning player has the option to return to their previous team. Players can also be reassigned if they choose. A returning player who took a year off may not be reassigned to the original team. The BWYAA attempts to honor specific team requests in this Division.

Concession Stand

All families are required to work the concession stand on one day, one time each season, for one hour prior to or following your participant's game or performance. Your Team Mom will have a sign-up sheet.

If a team does not have full coverage during their assigned time, no game announcement will be provided for that team.

Conditioning Camp

The BWYAA hosts a mandatory Conditioning Camp before regular season practice begins. The Conditioning Camp runs Monday through Thursday and is for two hours each evening.  

Equipment

The BWYAA provides a jersey and flags for game day. You provide mouthguard, pants and rubber soled cleats or tennis shoes. Most families have white, gray or black baseball pants which work fine. You are not required to buy new.

Practices

In the Flag Division, teams are permitted to practice two times each week until school begins and then once per week until the end of the season. Practices do not exceed one and a half hours in length. Locations are communicated by the Head Coach.

Games

All games are played at JR Smith Park in Sunbury, Ohio. Regular season games begin the weekend of Labor Day for eight weeks. Game times fluctuate each weekend. Parking is congested during game transitions, please plan accordingly.

The paved driveway from the Scoreboard around to the Concession Stand must remain clear in the event of an emergency. Games will be halted if this parking request is violated.

Tournament

The Flag Division does not participate in Tournaments.

Special Event

At the end of the season, the BWYAA sponsors a Monday Night Football experience for our Freshman Division. This event is played under the lights with special activities throughout the evening.

SOPHOMORE DIVISION

The Sophomore Flag Division is made up of four (4) to six (6) 1st and 2nd grade teams. Players in this Division are six (6) to seven (7) years old on July 1st of the current calendar year.

Tackle Football

JUNIOR DIVISION

Demographics

The Junior Division is made up of four (4) 2nd through 4th grade teams. Players in this Division are seven (7) to nine (9) years old on July 1st of the current calendar year.

New Players

Every new player to our program is required to participate in a Skills Assessment to evaluate capabilities and experience and provide a copy of his or her birth certificate during registration. Following the Skills Assessment, participants are drafted to one of the eight Junior Division teams. Specific team requests are not honored.

Returning Players

Every returning player has the option to return to the previous year's team. Players also have the option to enter the draft if they choose. Every player who enters the draft is required to attend Skills Assessment. A returning player who took a year off is not assigned to the original team and is required to enter the draft. Specific team requests are not honored.

Equipment is distributed to the tackle football players the weekend before Conditioning Camp. The BWYAA provides a helmet with chinstrap, shoulder pads and practice and game uniforms. You provide mouthguards, colored socks, rubber soled cleats and a groin protector.

You will also be assigned a time to return equipment at the end of the season. We are no longer accepting equipment at team banquets.

In the Junior Division, teams are permitted to practice three times each week through the first week of school. Once school begins, teams are permitted to practice two times each week. Practices do not exceed two hours in length and locations are communicated by the Head Coach.

SENIOR DIVISION

Demographics

The Senior Division is made up of four (4) 5th and 6th grade teams. Players in this Division are ten (10) to twelve (12) years old on July 1st of the current calendar year.

New Players

Every new player to our program is required to participate in a Skills Assessment to evaluate capabilities and experience and provide a copy of his or her birth certificate during registration. Following the Skills Assessment, participants are drafted to one of the six Senior Division teams. Specific team requests are not honored.

Returning Players

Every returning player has the option to return to the previous year's team. Players also have the option to enter the draft if they choose. Cheerleading

FLAG CADETS and HIGHSTEPPERS 

Demographics

The Flag Division is made up of two squads known as the Flag Cadets and High Steppers. Our Flag Cadets are in Pre-Kindergarten while our High Steppers are in Kindergarten.

New Participants

New cheerleaders are assigned to squads based on their grade level.

Returning Participants

Returning cheerleaders are assigned to squads based on their grade level.  

Concession Stand

All families are required to work the concession stand on one day, one time each season, for one hour prior to or following your participant's game or performance.

If a team does not have full coverage during their assigned time, no game announcement will be provided for that team.

Equipment

The BWYAA provides a uniform for game day. The uniform is returned at the end of the season. The BWYAA will also provide hairbow that is the cheerleaders to keep at the end of the season.

Practices

In this Division, teams are permitted to practice two times each week throughout the season. Practices do not exceed one and a half hours in length. Locations are communicated by the Head Coach.

Performances

All Flag Cadet and High Stepper performances are at JR Smith Park in Sunbury, Ohio. Regular season games begin the weekend of Labor Day for eight weeks. These performances are generally scheduled early morning or mid-day each Saturday. Parking is congested during game transitions, please plan accordingly.

Special Event

At the end of the season, the BWYAA sponsors a Monday Night Football experience for our Flag Divisions. Games are played under the lights with special activities throughout the evening. This event is a celebration for all of our football players and cheerleaders and is a great way to end the season. Our Flag Cadets and High Steppers steal the half-time show!

JUNIOR DIVISION

Demographics

The Junior Division is made up of four (4) 1st through 3rd grade teams.

New Participants

New cheerleaders are assigned to squads based on grade level and existing squad sizes.

Returning Participants

Returning cheerleaders are assigned to their team from the previous year. While our Cheer Vice-President does everything she can to keep teams together it may not be possible.

Concession Stand

All families are required to work the concession stand on one day, one time each season, for one hour prior to or following your participant's game or performance.

If a team does not have full coverage during their assigned time, no game announcement will be provided for that team.

Equipment

The BWYAA provides a uniform and hairbow for game day, and new to the 2020 season, all items are kept by the cheerleader at the end of season! You will need to supply white ankle socks and white tennis shoes.   

Practices

Practices usually begin the fourth week in July and are anywhere from an hour to an hour and a half in duration twice a week. After school begins, some teams choose to practice once a week.

Games
