Tackle Football: Junior Division

Demographics

The Junior Division is made up of six (6) to eight (8) 2nd through 4th grade teams. Players in this Division are seven (7) to nine (9) years old on July 1st of the current calendar year.

New Players

Every new player to our program is required to participate in a Skills Assessment to evaluate capabilities and experience and provide a copy of his or her birth certificate during registration. Following the Skills Assessment, participants are drafted to one of the eight Junior Division teams. Specific team requests are not honored.

Returning Players

Every returning player has the option to return to the previous year's team. Players also have the option to enter the draft if they choose. Every player who enters the draft is required to attend Skills Assessment. A returning player who took a year off is not assigned to the original team and is required to enter the draft. Specific team requests are not honored.

Concession Stand

All families are required to work the concession stand on one day, one time each season, for one hour prior to or following your participant's game or performance. Your Team Mom will have a sign-up sheet during Conditioning Camp.

If a team does not have full coverage during their assigned time, no game announcement will be provided for that team.

Conditioning Camp

The BWYAA hosts a mandatory Conditioning Camp before regular season practice begins. The Conditioning Camp runs Monday through Thursday and is for two hours each evening. The camp is held at Freedom Park off of State Route 61.

Equipment

Equipment is distributed to the tackle football players the weekend before Conditioning Camp. The BWYAA provides a helmet with chinstrap, shoulder pads and practice and game uniforms. You provide colored socks, rubber soled cleats and a groin protector.

You will also be assigned a time to return equipment at the end of the season. We are no longer accepting equipment at team banquets.

Practices

In the Junior Division, teams are permitted to practice three times each week through the first week of school. Once school begins, teams are permitted to practice two times each week. Practices do not exceed two hours in length and locations are communicated by the Head Coach.

Games

All games are played at JR Smith Park in Sunbury, Ohio. Regular season games begin the weekend after Labor Day for eight weeks. Game times fluctuate each weekend. Parking is congested during game transitions, especially from 12:00PM to 2:00PM.

The paved driveway from the Scoreboard around to the Concession Stand must remain clear in the event of an emergency. Games will be halted if this parking request is violated.

Tournament

Tournament play is reserved for the 4th Graders only as a Junior Division graduation event. Participation is optional, requires a nominal financial commitment and playing time is not guaranteed.

Next Year

If your participant is in the 4th Grade he or she may be pre-assigned to a Senior Division team. Players on the Broncos graduate to the Chargers, Cardinals to the Browns, Chiefs to the Steelers, Saints to the Bengals, Lions to the Ravens and Vikings to the Cowboys. All players have the option to enter the draft instead of being pre-assigned to a Senior Division team.
